Cayoosh Creek was first noted for placer gold, as both gold dust and coarse gold in the mid- to late 1800s. Mineral claims were originally staked on mesothermal mother lode style, quartz vein hosted and high-grade gold pockets such as that found at the Golden Cache mine. Homestake identified the deposit type as “a mesothermal epigenetic gold bearing quartz vein system”. Gold-bearing quartz veins are reported throughout this area, from Lillooet to Bralorne, perhaps the most famous of the past producers. The Bralorne-Pioneer Mine produced 4.1 million ounces of gold from 8.0 million tons of quartz vein ore between 1897 and 1971.
Near Bralorne, the Minto deposit was hosted by quartz carbonate veins hosting many sulphides, as well as gold. The Wayside Property was also a former producer with massive quartz veins carrying various sulphides and gold. Lower grade, higher tonnage gold deposits have not been investigated for the Ample-Goldmax area, but warrant further investigation. In addition, most of the gold-bearing quartz veins prospected in the region have come from metasedimentary rocks with the suggested prospecting within the greenstones due to their greater competence in hosting more continuous vein structures.
